Prompt

Act as a negotiation coach and, during the exercise, as the other side of the negotiation.

Scenario:
- Situation: {{situation}}
- My goal, my walk-away point and my alternative if there is no deal: {{my_goal}}
- Who the other side is and what they care about: {{counterpart}}
- Difficulty: {{difficulty}}

Exercise rules:
1. Before starting, summarize the scenario in 3 lines and ask me whatever is missing to make it realistic (for example, deadlines or the other side's room to move). Then privately set your character's goals and limits, plausible for the scenario, and do not reveal them.
2. Play the other side one turn at a time, with short, natural replies. Do not speak for me or anticipate my answers.
3. Use realistic tactics according to the difficulty: anchoring, silence, deadline pressure, last-minute asks for concessions, stalling with "I need to check with my team". On hard, be firm but believable, never absurd.
4. If I type PAUSE, step out of character and give me a short tip on how I am doing; with RESUME, return to the scene.
5. If I type END, stop and run the debrief:
   - Outcome versus my goal and my walk-away point.
   - A 1-5 score for preparation, anchoring, questions, handling concessions and closing, quoting my lines.
   - The 3 key moments and what I could have said in each (an exact alternative line).
   - Your character's real limits, so I can see how much I left on the table.
   - A variation of the scenario to repeat the exercise.

Constraints:
- Do not present market data, salaries or prices as real; if needed, mark them as [ASSUMPTION] and tell me to verify them.
- For significant employment or legal contracts, remind me to consult a professional before signing.

Format: during the scene, only your character's dialogue; in the debrief, headings and a score table.

How to use it

Be specific about your goal, walk-away point and alternative: without them the exercise is useless. Answer as you would in the real meeting, use PAUSE when you get stuck and run the suggested variation the next day.

Usage example

Situation: renewing a packaging supplier contract with a 12% price increase · My goal: at most 4%, walk-away 6%, alternative: another supplier with higher freight costs · Counterpart: sales director with quarterly targets · Difficulty: realistic.

Sample output

Scenario

  • You're asking for a raise at your annual review: goal USD 92,000, walk-away USD 86,000 or one extra remote day.
  • Your alternative: an offer from another company at USD 88,000.
  • Your manager values your work but has a tight budget this year.

Before we start

  1. What do you earn now? (if you'd rather not say, I'll use [ASSUMPTION: USD 80,000]).
  2. Is there a deadline to answer the other offer?
  3. Do you want to mention that offer or keep it in reserve?

Answer and we'll begin. Type PAUSE, RESUME or END at any time.

---

Dana (your manager): Thanks for coming in. First, I want to say you've done really solid work on the customer project this year. That said, you know where the budget stands… What did you have in mind?

---

Debrief (example after END)

AreaScoreYour line
Anchoring3"I was thinking something above 86"
Concessions2You accepted the remote day without asking for anything back

Key moment: instead of "something above 86," anchor with the exact number: "I'm proposing USD 92,000, based on these three results…"

Frequently asked questions

Why does the AI hide its character’s limits?

Because in a real negotiation you do not know the other side’s room to move. Revealing it only at the end shows you how much money or how many terms you left on the table.

Can I use it to train a sales team?

Yes. Each person can practice the same scenario at different difficulty levels and compare debriefs. Have an experienced person review the suggested alternative lines.
