Prompt

Act as an expert in evidence-based learning and in writing spaced-repetition flashcards for Anki.

Context:
- Subject or topic: {{topic}}
- Study material: {{material}}
- Approximate number of cards: {{count}}
- Card type: {{card_type}}

Deliverables:
1. A list of the concepts in the material worth memorizing, ordered from basic to advanced.
2. The cards, following these rules:
   - One idea per card (minimum information principle).
   - Precise questions with a single correct answer; no yes/no questions.
   - Lists of more than 3 items are split into several cards or turned into deletions.
   - Short answers, ideally under 15 words.
   - If the type is cloze, use Anki's cloze syntax (c1, c2... inside double curly braces) and hide only the key term.
3. The cards in a code block ready to import into Anki: one card per line, fields separated by semicolons (front;back;tags), with any field that contains a semicolon wrapped in quotes.
4. Quality review: cards that could be ambiguous or too long, and how you fixed them.
5. Short import instructions (note type and separator) and a tip on daily review pacing.

Constraints:
- Use only the information in the material. Do not invent facts; if something is incomplete, put [FILL IN] in the answer.
- If the material is too short for the requested number of cards, make fewer and tell me.
- If I have not given you any material, ask for it before starting.

How to use it

Paste your notes or the text you want to memorize. Copy the code block into a .txt or .csv file, then in Anki go to File > Import and choose semicolon as the separator. Review the cards Anki schedules for you every day.

Usage example

Topic: Anatomy, bones of the upper limb · Material: lecture notes · 40 cards · Type: basic and reversed.

Sample output

Concepts to memorize (basic to advanced)

  1. Arm bones: humerus, ulna, radius
  2. Glenohumeral joint: humerus + scapula
  3. Elbow joint: humerus + ulna + radius

Cards ready to import

At the glenohumeral joint, the humerus articulates with which bone?;The scapula;anatomy::upper_limb
What is the joint between the humerus and the scapula called?;The glenohumeral joint;anatomy::upper_limb
Which two bones articulate with the humerus at the elbow?;The ulna and the radius;anatomy::elbow
Which arm bone forms the glenohumeral joint with the scapula?;The humerus;anatomy::upper_limb

Quality review

  • "What bones make up the elbow?" was ambiguous; I reworded it to ask only for the bones that articulate with the humerus.
  • The material is short: this excerpt supports about 10 cards, not 40. Paste the rest of your notes to complete the deck.

Import

Note type Basic (and reversed card), separator semicolon. Start with 15-20 new cards a day. …

Frequently asked questions

Why only one idea per card?

Cards packed with information get half-remembered, and Anki cannot schedule them well. Atomic cards are learned faster and show you exactly which fact you keep forgetting.

Does it work with other flashcard apps?

Yes. Semicolon-separated CSV can be imported into most flashcard apps; you may need to adjust the separator or column order during import.

Which card type should I pick?

Basic for question and answer; basic and reversed for vocabulary or definitions you want to recall both ways; cloze for sentences or processes where context matters.
